DEFENSE

NO ZONE DEFENSES: Only person-to-person defense is allowed (with the exception noted below). "Help-Out" defense is allowed in the lane area. A "zone" means any defensive player in the "lane" and more than six (6) feet away from the player they are to be guarding.

FULL COURT DEFENSE IS ALLOWED in the last two (2) minutes of the game only.

FOULS

Intentional Fouls and Technical Fouls – Two free throws and the ball awarded out of bounds. A player receiving their first technical foul, must sit out at least five (5) minutes before they are allowed to re-enter the game. If a player or a coach receives a second technical foul, he/she must sit out the remainder of the game plus one additional game. Affected player or coach must leave the immediate "bench" area upon receiving a second technical foul. Coaches and players who continually get technical fouls may be suspended indefinitely. Intentional fouls, if deemed flagrant by the referee, may lead to ejection from the game. Any ejection is an automatic additional one game suspension.

OFFENSE

Lane Violation – Referees are asked to "talk" to the players (while starting your count) to get them out of the lane before making call.

Grades 5/6 5 seconds constitutes a "lane violation".

Grades 7/8 3 seconds constitutes a "lane violation".

Coaches – recognize the different skill levels in your players and instruct accordingly.

SCORING

Field goals are worth two (2) points each. Where a floor is properly marked, three (3) point goals will be counted.

Made free throws are worth one (1) point each.

GAME TIME

Two (2) 16 minute "stop-time" halves. At the discretion of the referees, if the game in progress will overlap the start of the next scheduled game, the use of running time will commence.

Halftime – Three (3) minutes break for half-time. This can be shortened, t the discretion of the referees, if the first half is longer than 25 minutes.

TimeoutsTwo (2) 30 second timeouts per half. No carry over timeouts. One timeout in overtime.

Overtime – Overtime will be 2 minutes stop time (running time at discretion of referees). If a third overtime is needed, it will be a "sudden-death", first team to score wins. All overtimes to start with a "jump ball".

OFFICIALS

Officials should refrain from talking to "hecklers", but halt game if necessary to confer with the coaches. Coaches are expected to politely ask the heckler to please refrain from further harassment. The referee has the right to suspend play, or declare a forfeit.
